Greetings church family and friends of Highrock Quincy,
On Tuesday Governor Baker announced that all COVID gathering restrictions would be lifted by the end of this month. That is welcome news for all of us who have felt the painful isolation that this past year has brought us. One of the big questions that many of you may be asking is "can we now return to worship as usual?" In this email I will communicate our plans for relaunching our in-person church ministry, including our summer schedule and approach to this new season.
Our summer schedule (see below) will follow a rhythm of every other week in-person gatherings. During the 'off' weeks, our hope is that some people might be able to start hosting or attending Highrock at Home 'watch parties' in our homes. Pastor Cindy is working on this, but it is very much dependent on how comfortable people are having people in their homes. We can help organize this, or you can do this organically simply be inviting your friends or family over to participate in Highrock at Home worship together.
Some may ask, "why don't we just starting meeting weekly now?" There are a few reasons.
With new rules about mask mandates and vaccinations some may wonder how we will approach this. In regards to masks we will keep wearing masks indoors for the time being even when the mandates are lifted. We do this to honor the fact there are many among us who are still very much concerned about the spread of COVID-19, particularly among our children who remain unvaccinated. As positive infection numbers continue to decline this may change and we will strive to adapt as necessary while also caring for those among us. We will not ask people to confirm whether or not they have been vaccinated. Anyone may share that information freely, but we will not impose upon you to share that personal info.
THIS SUNDAY we will return to worship together, first outside over the next couple months, then inside. For this first Sunday we will ask that people continue to wear masks outside until the mandate is fully lifted next week.
I continue to look forward to this relaunch with great optimism. We have an opportunity to take fresh steps forward as God's people on a mission. Culture may shake and shatter, disease and war may threaten God's people, but God's kingdom will move forward no matter what. We get to be a part of this movement.
Together in Christ,
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
The wild animals honor me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.
- Isaiah 43:19-21
